Dr Michael Richards graduated in dentistry and medicine from London University in 1970 and 1976 respectively, and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery in 1984.

During his training, Dr Richards spent a year at St Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne where he developed an interest and expertise in reconstructive microsurgery under Professor Bernard O'Brien and Professor Wayne Morrison. Subsequently he undertook postgraduate training in plastic surgery units in Oxford and Bristol before returning to a Visiting Medical Officer position at Royal North Shore Hospital in 1986.


Dr Richards has, in the past, been head of The Department of Plastic Surgery and a member of The Hospital Board and The Medical Advisory and Credentialing Committee at Royal North Shore Hospital. He has also been a past president of the NSW Hand Surgery Association.

Currently he is a supervisor of plastic surgery training and a member of the NSW Plastic Surgery Training Committee. He regularly attends national and international conferences and workshops to improve and broaden his knowledge of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
